DESCRIPTION
Un jeune homme riche dans son automobile attend avec impatience des filles qui sortent d’un établissement de confection. Enfin, elles sortent. Le jeune homme s’adresse à l’une d’elles, lui offre des fleurs et l’emmène à son automobile. Elle est réticente mais il l’embarque rapidement. La scène suivante nous amène dans un restaurant de mauvaise réputation. Le jeune homme entre avec sa nouvelle connaissance. Il la présente à ses compagnons. Le champagne est servi. D’abord réticente la jeune fille, sous l’influence du champagne, finit par céder aux avances de son séducteur. La scène suivante montre les amoureux à la maison dans leur chalet. Le jeune homme se lasse peu à peu de ses relations avec la jeune femme et tente de se débarrasser d’elle. La visite de ses anciens compagnons lui offre une bonne excuse pour la quitter. La jeune femme comprend que c’est le début de la fin et le dernier chapitre de ses rêves de bonheur. Abandonnée, elle s’enfonce de plus en plus bas jusqu’à ce que, affamée, elle arrive dans un lieu mal famé. La misère lui a appris à mendier. Attiré par sa beauté, un homme veut profiter d’elle. Comme elle est épuisée et qu’elle meurt de faim, elle tombe. L’homme aux mauvaises attentions prend soin d’elle. Plus tard, par une nuit d’hiver orageuse. Le compagnon d’Annie essaie de la forcer à une occupation honteuse (se faire approcher par un homme pour que son compagnon puisse l’attaquer) qu’elle refuse catégoriquement. La brute tire un poignard, court après la femme en fuite, l’attrape sur le haut d’un pont et la poignarde. Il la jette ensuite par-dessus la balustrade dans l’eau profonde et froide. Les cris de la pauvre femme attire deux policiers qui la sauvent.

A wealthy young man in his motor car is impatiently waiting for the working girls to come out of a dress-making establishment. At last the working girls appear. The young man addresses one of them, offering her some flowers, and leads her to the automobile. She is reluctant but he quickly takes her away. The next scene brings us to a restaurant of ill repute. We see the young man enter with his new acquaintance, dressed in the height of fashion. He introduces her to his companions. Champagne is served. First reticent the young girl under the influence of rippling champagne, ends up giwing in tho the advances of her enticer. The next scene shows the lovers at home in their cottage. The young man gradually tires of his relations with the young woman and tries to get rid of her. The visit of his old companions affords him a good excuse to leave her. The young woman understands that this is the beginning of the end and the closing chapter of her dreams of happiness. Deserted, she sinks lower and lower until, almost frenzied by hunger, she comes to a suburban place of ill repute. Misery has taught her to beg. Attracted by her beauty, a man wants to take advantage of her. As she is exhausted with sufferings and dying of hunger, she falls. The man with the bad attentions takes care of her. Stormy winter night. Annie’s companion tries to force her to a shameful occupation, which she emphatically refuses to obey. The enraged brute draws a dagger, runs after the fleeing woman, catches her upon a high bridge and stabs her in the breast. He then throws her over the railing down in the deep, cold water. The outcry of the poor woman attracts two policemen, who rescue her.
